If “that” or “this” would happen I could die a happy person.
We can chase “that” or “this” for all our lives, most people do, but we should realize “that” or “this” will not bring true happiness. Sure they do for short periods but with them also come attachment and eventual suffering and even if no attachment is there the happiness is not everlasting. The only true happiness is peace and stillness of the mind – that can come only from renunciation. So far the only thing I found that cultivates this is being content with the minimum. hhmmmm “that” = renunciation and “this” = contentment
Alright so I’m good with “that” and “this” in this context.
The Dhamma is our guide, it is what we can continue to strive for, it is what will lead us to the unconditioned happiness. Instead of chasing the worldly things of “this” and “that’, we can desire to cultivate the Dhamma and then we can always die happy.
Peace to you my friends
