Truly Inspiring

Sometimes it’s hard to find inspiration, especially with the way the world is today.  We find many things that rile us up, such as the protests going on, the biased news channels, or even commercials telling us what we should be buying or how to make more money.  This riled up feeling is often confused with inspiration.  Inspiration is what drives us to be a better person; to strive to realize the true potential we have to be free from defilements and hindrances.  Recently I had a facebook encounter with someone I would regard as a great coach.  Here is a snippet of the conversation:

SB: I have one question to ask though, if you could no longer do these physical quests, not physically able to, would you still feel this way (as in this post)? IOW, if you couldn’t train would you still “practice”?

Coach:   it sounds like you’re asking something deeply important to you. I don’t know your circumstances, but I do want to honor the place from whence this question derives: we are only ever deepening our practice, or falling into the abyss. There are only two choices. Life has no maintenance. No steady state. We’re either evolving or devolving, expanding or collapsing. Most of my photos and quotes celebrate those who’ve been physically debilitated and have pursued their dreams anyway. One could argue that no one explored the physical universe more greatly than Stephen Hawking after his physical ALS struck him immobile. My childhood obesity, disability and joint disease made me focus on daily practice: every day a little better than the day before. As long as you place your reconnect with the deeper/higher Source, and open the sluice gates, I’ve seen and experienced no upper limit to our daily practice.

SB: I had no doubts, I just wanted to hear your thoughts on the subject. This is what I believe places you in a different category, call it superior if you want, than most other athletes/trainers/coaches. It’s not just training the body but of the mind and spirit as well. To stand strong without arrogance. With Metta

TR: SB, we are team. Never need to meet. Side by side, into the depths of our potential.

This has great meaning for me…no riling up, no negative jarring, no “be better than them” attitude.  Just positive focusing to truly find and delve into the potential we all have and acknowledging the oneness that encompasses all.

Find inspiration, better yet be inspiration.  Yours in Dhamma
